Introduction to List;
I discovered several poems by Robert Frost and decided to interpret them on my own in the DEEPEST WAY POSSIBLE. Here are the poems blurbs and my thoughts below:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Poem #1: A Line-Storm Song
"The birds have less to say for themselves
In the wood-world’s torn despair
Than now these numberless years the elves,
Although they are no less there:
All song of the woods is crushed like some
Wild, easily shattered rose.
Come, be my love in the wet woods; come,
Where the boughs rain when it blows."Self - Interpretation:This guy likes trees.
Poem # 2: Birches
"And not one but hung limp, not one was left
For him to conquer. He learned all there was
To learn about not launching out too soon
And so not carrying the tree away
Clear to the ground. He always kept his poise
To the top branches, climbing carefully
With the same pains you use to fill a cup
Up to the brim, and even above the brim.
Self-Interpretation:
He wants to shoot things out of a cannon.
Poem # 3: Christmas Trees
"He proved to be the city come again
To look for something it had left behind
And could not do without and keep its Christmas.
He asked if I would sell my Christmas trees;
My woods—the young fir balsams like a place
Where houses all are churches and have spires.
I hadn’t thought of them as Christmas Trees."
Self-Interpretation:
His favorite holiday is Halloween.
Poem # 4: Carpe Diem
"Be happy, happy, happy,
And seize the day of pleasure."
The age-long theme is Age's.
'Twas Age imposed on poems
Their gather-roses burden
To warn against the danger
That overtaken lovers
From being overflooded "
Self - Interpretation:
His basement is flooded.
Poem # 5: Bond and Free
"Love has earth to which she clings
With hills and circling arms about—
Wall within wall to shut fear out.
But Thought has need of no such things,
For Thought has a pair of dauntless wings."
Self Interpretation:
His pet bird's wing got stuck in a door.
Poem # 6: After Apple-Picking
"I skimmed this morning from the drinking trough
And held against the world of hoary grass.
It melted, and I let it fall and break.
But I was well
Upon my way to sleep before it fell,
And I could tell
What form my dreaming was about to take.
Magnified apples appear and disappear,
Stem end and blossom end,
And every fleck of russet showing clear.
My instep arch not only keeps the ache,
It keeps the pressure of a ladder-round.
I feel the ladder sway as the boughs bend."
Self Interpretation:
Before he fell asleep, he forgot to throw away
his pear core and it rotted.
Poem # 7: Nothing Gold Can Stay
"Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay."
Self Interpretation:
He really wants a salad.
Conclusion to List;
Robert Frost is an amazing poet; one of the greatest of all time, in my book.
AND HANDS DOWN I am the best interpretative-poet-person ... ever.
